DIY: ACNE Pop Trash Jeans

2012 March 20
by B. Jones

Like I mentioned, I spent some of my break working on little DIY projects, and one that I’ve been wanting to do for a while was my own take on ACNE POP TRASH jeans.

So I set out to create and thought I’d share my method of madness.

First, I went hunting for a worn out pair of men’s jeans. I found a vintage pair of Wrangler’s that seemed to work .. they are a bit too big.. and eventually I might find another pair.. but for now.. they work.

I grabbed a few tools.. fabric scissors, an x-acto knife, and a cutting board.

To give them the cool cropped look, I pulled them on and marked where I wanted them to fall.. then cut off the bottoms.. and got to work.

I started by creating a faux-torn hem at the bottoms. About an inch up I started slashing… enough so that when they were weathered it would look like a worn in hem.

Then, I started creating the cuts up the leg.. I grouped the slashed together to create the shapes I wanted and went up the leg.. stopping around the pocket area.

I also slashed up the back pockets a bit, but let most of the back legs free… the front looked all tattered and torn.. ready to hit the washing machine.

After one wash.. they came out PERFECT!! I loved how they turned out.. though now I’m on a tear.. looking for anything and everything to tatter and torture!

An x-acto knife! Brilliant. I’ve wanted to create a similar look of late, but I could think of a tool that would allow me to do so. Yay! Thanks for the tip Beth.

I guess this is an easy way…I’ve made mine with sandpaper and it took me two days and not to mention serious dust inhalation….
