Fit and Fabulous: Post Baby Body

2012 December 13
by B. Jones

In line with my new direction, I’m kicking off my FIT AND FABULOUS series with a discussion about my current post-baby body. During my pregnancy, I did the major weight gain game, but let me first say that I’m super excited to announce I’ve already lost 30 lbs! CRAZY.. I know. I still have a good chunk to lose, and plan on jumping in full force in January. Right now, I’m adjusting to life with a newborn, eating really healthy and breastfeeding like a maniac.

While my body is still in transition, I’m working with what I have. Bodies don’t have to dictate style, and I’m not letting it stop me. In my current state, I’m wearing loose layers, accentuating the positives, and searching out baggy tees. Adding elements like a fabulous ‘do, a hat, punchy lips and great shoes help to make it me.

I do crave the day I’m back in high waist pants, crop tops and shorts.. but until then this is me.

Come January, I’m letting you all in on the nitty gritty of my weight loss journey. Should be fun to see the changes happen… if you want to join me.. feel free.

WOW, that was a fast 30lbs! I am expecting a slower loss since I will most likely csection and I know it will keep me down a little longer. Breast feeding really is the best thing ever, for obvious reasons AND the great calorie burn.

You are so amazing sharing your post-baby journey and positive attitude. Just keep in mind, it took 9 months for your body to stretch and pad-up to accommodate that sweet baby! I now have a 6 month old and am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Don’t think my belly button will ever look the same, but it’s a small price to pay for my baby girl! Breast feeding has been key to a rather effortless return to my “normal” body!

I do adore you for managing to continue looking so chic in the new situation. And I don’t mean the weight. For me, the hardest part were the first few months. Couldn’t wear anything but some comfy jeans and warm coats.
Keep up the great work you’re doing :)

Great advice (hair, hat, lips, shoes). I’m loving this grunge phase and have been personally wanting to bring back the slip dress after watching that old Jennifer Anniston movie Picture Perfect (you know what I’m talking about, with the t-shirt under?). Would ya do it?!

I’m excited to follow your journey through this. I’m hoping it will help motivate me to be better at eating and working out. You’re gorgeous no matter what though and don’t get discouraged. You just had a beautiful miraculous baby for goodness sake.

Fabulous, as usual Jones. Very excited for this new chapter, and will attempt to start this next journey with you. It would be nice to be in high waist pants for the first time… ever!! Sounds like this breastfeeding helps lose the weight better than anything.. too bad there’s not a way to do it without a baby! Ha! Happy Festivus!

I never got back to my pre-baby body. As you I had a boy, and he was darn big – 4,500kg – and I had gained quite a lot of weight during pregnancy. My first post natal at the OBGYN told me I had lost nearly 10kg already, and I lost 5 more during the first year of life of my boy while I kept breastfeeding. The moment I stoped, I gained all that weight back, so I’m really looking forward to go on this journey with you and maybe get a few tips along the way, eheh. But the fact that I did not regain my 50kg body does not mean I wear different styles of clothing from before, no way, If it makes me look fat, man, I am fat, so what? Congrats again on managing to look quite stunning all the time.

You’re an inspiration to me… I too just had a baby boy (11/23/12: Ethan Michael) and gained a LOT of weight. All I want to wear are baggy sweats, cozy slippers, and tees. Seeing this post made me hopeful for the future when I can get back to doing ME. Thanks for being so open and honest. I look forward to joining you on your weight loss journey in January. xxoo Erin
